| Safety |
All conversion kits must prevent the firing of live (lethal) ammunition. Safety is paramount! When a UTM Conversion Kit is installed, the host weapon is incapable of firing live ammunition. |

| Realism |
All conversion kits ensure that the weapon handles and operates as close to normal as possible. Critically, all behaviors in stoppage clearing drills and Immediate Action Drills are not changed by this fail-safe capability. Importantly, should an unintentional live (lethal) round be introduced to the weapon it not only will not fire but also during standard Immediate Action Drills it will be systematically ejected from the weapon. All psycho motor skill development is identical to real handling performance. |

| Identification |
UTM Conversion Kits have distant, identifiable markings to enable identification even under reduced visibility conditions:
Pistol: Each conversion kit has a recessed, clearly visible BLUE marking on the external chamber wall of the barrel. This provides both an optical and tactile mark in the chamber area. UTM barrels are not phosphate or blued so they appear bright when compared against ‘live’ barrels. Unique serial numbers and script “UTM AMMO ONLY” are engraved on the chamber wall.
Rifles: Each conversion kit has a recessed, clearly visible marking on the carrier that is visible through the ejection port. The Carrier is not machined to allow the Ejection Cover to close so the blue marking is always visible. The operator has both an optical and tactile marker in the ejection opening. Unique serial numbers and “UTM AMMO ONLY” are engraved on the Carrier.

| Temporary (Easy) |
UTM Conversion Kits temporarily convert weapons Installation to allow them to fire UTM training ammunition in both single and automatic fire modes. UTM Conversion Kits do not require modification of an of the ‘live’ weapon components. The conversion of each ‘live’ weapon type for UTM training ammunition is classed as a Level 1 activity, the knowledge depth required for standard service field-stripping and reassembly as would be required for daily cleaning activity.

| No Performance Degradation |
UTM weapon conversion kits will not cause degradation of the host weapon when reconverted to it’s ‘live’ status and will not shorten the established useful life expectancy of these weapons or their component parts.

| Maintain Zero |
UTM Conversion Kits and training ammunition will not alter the weapons zero when reconfigured for duty.
